Woke up to the sound of a hawk cry, and even 10 years after the last time I heard it, I remembered the bird…a smallish and sooty hawk that’s as capable of catching prey as foraging in garbage. Perfect urban adaptation. I think this bird is common in much of the world and that it’s just we in the US who aren’t so familiar with it. Still, the memory came back with that call.
But that was later. My flight over was a piece of cake, probably my easiest long flight ever. Slept for eight of the thirteen hours and watched Harry Potter the other part. That’s about the best one can hope for, I think. Arrived about 8:30 pm local time and found a prepaid taxi stand, so didn’t even have problems with the taxi driver. My only mistake there was sitting in the front seat leaving the airport. I know that Indian drivers are the worst in the world, so I must’ve still been asleep to get that close to the action. We juggernauted through the crowds around the airport, more often within inches of pedestrians than not. YIKES! Lesson (re)learned; it’s best just not to look.
Got to my hotel and immediately saw it was dingy and overpriced, but I got settled in anyway. Surprisingly, I was sleepy again (!) by 10:30. Hey, thinks I, no jet lag this time around.
So I went to sleep to wait for the hawks.
